Garden

Merriments RHS Partner Garden, tucked behind tall hedges, is a hidden treasure for garden lovers. Our beautiful colour-themed borders of inspiring planting are set amongst the rolling countryside of East Sussex. The Garden evolves through the seasons, moving from Spring pastels to fiery Autumns hues. With a relaxed, classic contemporary style, you can enjoy both formal and wild planting schemes, all set on a gently sloping South facing site.

Designed to inspire visitors through the seasons, Spring starts with a palette of crocus and wood anemones underplanted in the Silver Birch Glade. Closely followed by drifts of Camassia in the Grass Meadow are the early season blossoms of Magnolias & Cherries. However, the real highlights are the Spring bulbs with early Narcissus giving way to swathes of Tulips. As the colours develop over the months, the hotter the weather, the more vibrant the perennials become. In addition, the stunning Autumn colours of the many trees planted throughout the 4-acre Garden bring the year to a stunning finale.

In contrast to the clouds of seasonal colour, a certain calm is found in the structure and tranquillity of the new Herbalist Garden. Here the soft scents of Lavender & herbs combine with the murmuring water of the rill. Additional features include foliage borders and a system of ponds with a waterfall and streams. Our Asian-inspired area is completed by a water-feature, pond and bridge. At the bottom of the site, opening out into the surrounding countryside, is a wildlife area. This space provides habitats and food for many species, and also contains a bird-hide.

Under new ownership since June 2017, there is an ongoing programme of works to restore Merriments RHS Partner Garden. It is also important to respond to evolving environmental changes and modern growing techniques. As a result, new features and planting schemes include our Palm area, a Fernery and seasonal Tropical beds. In addition our most recent projects include our flourishing Kitchen Garden, growing for the Restaurant and reducing food miles. An ongoing project is our a Herbalist Garden of Medical Herbs, which will soon be used for teaching.

Merriments specialises in growing unusual perennials in our own Nursery. Much of the planting seen in the Garden grown on site & we use many of the plants  for propagation. Many of these plants are available to purchase in the retail Plant Area.

Merriments has good parking and easy access & welcomes dogs.

All the best Imogen & your team ❤️ So sad it had to end like this 🥺

Wishing you all the very best for your futures.

Can't make it tomorrow, it would have been my mum's birthday though and she absolutely loved visiting Merriments! All the best ❤️

Oh fantastic, I was just about to ask the question of an extra day! Will try and make it down tomorrow. What are your opening and closing times please? X

I know you’ve sold the property, but do you have any future intentions to keep the Merriments Gardens brand going at a different location? ❤️ you will be deeply missed, I’m sad I didn’t get to see the garden walk or come by one last time before you closed. Wishing you all the best for the future and hopefully the caravan company who are taking the property over will keep the garden walk area and the majority of the original features of Merriments Gardens maintaining its historical significance in the community.. 💐🌸🌺🌹🌼🌻🪴🌳🤍

Great. I was on my way today but turned back when it started to snow.

Wishing all the team the best of wishes for the future

Thank you so much for the wooden tree, I have got it some more dowel rods for it's new life coming with me to Craft Fairs. I wish everyone at Merriments all the very best for the future x

got some souvenir china - so there'll be a little bit of Merriments in my home! So sad, didn't seek you out as I guessed the last thing you needed today was a blubbering geriatric

Oh, bless them! I'm so sorry you're closing. We'll miss you.
