Plants

Here in Merriments Plant Area, our focus is on plants we grow ourselves to enable your gardens to thrive. Where not growing the plants ourselves, Merriments looks to local nurseries and British suppliers. We strive for high quality & good value stock to pass on to our customers with confidence.

Our extensive range of home-grown plants are easily identified as we pop them into ‘Pink Pots’. We also sell ‘Purple Pots’ which are our most drought tolerant plants that cope with the high temperatures & low rainfall experienced in recent years. On the Nursery, we grow all our plants in Melcourt Peat-Free compost which we also sell in our Shop.

Many of our plants are showcased in our beautiful RHS Partner Garden. We also propagate plants from the Garden. In addition, we are working to ensure more the plants seen in the Garden are for sale in Merriments Plant Area.

Since the business changed hands in 2017, we have welcomed back many former Merriments specialties. We now have a full range including ornamental trees and fruit tress. Our Nursery also grows young plants for our own Kitchen Garden plus we offer grow-your-own plants & herbs for local gardeners to grow at home.

Our plant specialists offer advice & guidance and are on hand all week (easily spotted in their pink polos). In addition, we offer help on how to solve your garden problems and information on plants. The team is always happy to advise gardeners of all experience levels. We want you get the most out of the plants you take home from Merriments.

Merriments was known for new & unusual plants. Over the coming months, we are working to increase our range of such plants & get back to our roots! Keep an eye out for more news and information over the coming weeks.

Yesterday we spent a fascinating afternoon with one of the leading Dutch breeders learning about how new varieties come to market 😮With a average timeframe of 7 years & a cost of IRO €15,000 per variety it is quite the commitment. Here in this field are hundreds of Alliums being monitored for selections 💜 They are assessed for flower & leave shape, colour, & number plus growth habit, disease vulnerability etc and thats just for starters 🤪
